Traces Entrelacées

The exhibition “Traces Entrelacées – Verwobene Spuren – Interlaced Traces” brings Margaux Compte Mergier and Thomas Süß into an artfully interwoven dialogue in which drawing and sculpture do not stand side by side but merge into a shared fabric.

Margaux Compte Mergier develops hybrid sculptures in which organic fragility and technical fragmentation condense into open metamorphoses. She often draws on distant pasts: Roman deities, medieval legends, and mythological figures serve as points of departure that she reassembles and translates into her own narratives. Her works reflect how, for centuries, humans have projected their belief systems onto the world while continually reinventing them.

Thomas Süß, by contrast, approaches the present through a drawing practice that connects comics, digital renderings, and poster aesthetics. Humor, fictional superheroes, a certain roughness, and references to early 2000s video game design run through his works, which move between intimacy and the surreal, between precision and suggestion.

In this encounter, a resonant space emerges in which two very different artistic positions stand in striking contrast while also opening up new intersections. Both artists work with storytelling from the perspective of the still image, both create beings that are not always human but animal, bestial, or hybrid.

“Traces Entrelacées – Verwobene Spuren – Interlaced Traces” understands transformation not as an exception but as a structural element of artistic practice. It opens a space in which line becomes trace, sculpture becomes narrative, and the fragment becomes a productive category, a field in which perception trembles and imagination is newly reconfigured.
